Try Sailing 

GBSC is committed to developing sailing for all ages and introducing newcomers to this fun and active sport.

This Try Sailing is the new initiative aimed at Transition / Secondary year students as a vehicle to gently introduce them to sailing with a view to increasing participation of young sailors in this dynamic and rewarding sport.

Duration

This is a one day course and its will run from 10am to 2:30pm

Objective

By the end of this course participants will have had a basic introduction to the following:

• Clothing & equipment
• Safety
• Weather
• Boat Parts
• Launching
• Experience Sailing a Dinghy under supervision

Previous knowledge or experience

No previous experience required.

Equipment

Buoyancy aids are provided by GBSC.

Wetsuits can be provided by the GBSC but if participants have their own wetsuits that is preferable

Participants must provide their own footwear, see recommendations below.

Please bring warm suitable footwear, under garments, gloves and hats suitable for the conditions on the day.

A change of dry clothes and towels / swim robe

Footwear

Sandals, Flip Flops, Crocs or other similar open shoes are NOT recommended.

We recommend Runners, Aqua Shoes or Wetsuit Boots.

Consent Form

Parents will be asked to sign a club consent form in advance and/or on the day.

Child Safety

In line with strict Safeguarding policies, there is no parental access to the changing rooms.

Please talk with the Senior Instructor on the day for further guidance.

Medical Conditions

You must inform us in advance if the participant has any know medical conditions that we should be aware of.

Mobile phones

The use of mobile phones in the changing rooms is strictly prohibited.

We recommend that participants use the opportunity to have a Phone Free Day.

Transport

Participants must arrange their own transport to and from the GBSC Training Center.

The course fee does not include additional transport costs to and from the venue.
